Route to discover the natural values of the Colls-Miralpeix area
Sitges Town Council and Garraf County Council are organising an activity as part of the ‘Fem una Bio-Garraf?’ series on Sunday at 10 am, setting off from the Anquines beach to discover the natural values and biodiversity of part of the Sitges coast. The family activity lasts until 1 pm and consists of a route between the Anquines beach and Punta Grossa. The outing is free but requires registration in advance at medinatural@ccgarraf.cat.
This guided activity around the natural space protected by the Natura 2000 network covers the urban beaches of Sitges, the Anquines beach (in front of the Hotel ME Terramar) and into the Colls-Miralpeix area as far as Punta Grossa (by the second rail tunnel). The goal is to introduce the natural values and biodiversity that exist in this section of the Sitges coast, where we can find cliffs, natural coves and coastal vegetation.
The Councillor for Natural Spaces with Sitges Town Council, Carme Gasulla Blanco, believes that “the route enables us to become more familiar with a protected natural space on our coast, where we may have been plenty of times and not paid enough attention to its environmental wealth, which we can enjoy on our own doorstep”. At the same time, Councillor Gasulla adds that “we need to be aware of the fragile balance between the natural environment and human activity, particularly in the summer, meaning we have to be very respectful with these spaces on the coast”.
The project which the County Council has grouped together under the name ‘Fem una Bio-Garraf?’ also includes an outing to the mouth of the River Foix, in Cubelles, on 8 June. Later, on 15 June, there will be an activity to install nesting boxes at the Masia en Cabanyes (Vilanova i la Geltrú), including the observation of local biodiversity there. Finally, on 22 June, a route around the Ribes Roges beach in Vilanova is planned.
