Sitges ReciclArt is back

The 8th edition of the festival of Recycling and Responsible Art is planning the traditional group exhibition at Miramar–Centre Cultural along with a series of free parallel activities like workshops, talks, guided tours and the ReciclArt route until 21 September.

Sitges ReciclArt 2025 is once again promoting environmental awareness through art and creative recycling. This 8th edition of Sitges ReciclArt is launching as a Biennial, to be held every two years. The event features a group exhibition and a programme of free complementary activities on the ground floor of the MiramarCentre Cultural until 21 September.

The show, which opened last Saturday, brings together more than sixty works created by more than 30 artists from Sitges, the rest of Catalonia and other countries using waste and recycled materials. The event’s opening began with a performance by the Sitges-based dancer, Sílvia Cuesta, who was wearing a transparent dress and cape made of recycled materials during the performance.

The curator of Sitges ReciclArt 2025, Tanja Grass, says that ‘the goal of this year's edition is to fill Sitges with creative proposals that spark reflection on the climate crisis, resource waste and the pollution of the seas by microplastics, and to encourage a change in habits and the quest for solutions to work towards a more sustainable future’.

The creators in Sitges ReciclArt 2025 are: Enric Alonso Masana; Verónica Arellano; Carles Barbeito i Mallafré ‘Fusta de Peix’; [Wooden Fish] Snezhana Botenovskaya ‘Nia’; Alejandra Bourda; Isaac Carbonell Valera ‘Neoplancton’ [Neoplankton]; Marisa Domínguez; Mónica Draghi; Steven Forster ‘SfoRster’; Vicky Gómez Talaya; Richard Hoffman ‘RichHARD HoffMAN’; Sílvia Isach; Eva Lovrics; Aina Lúa; Bill Miller; Macarena Pinilla; Judith Cunillera; Jordi Prat Pons; Rosa Puig; Anna Roser; Lisa Rubin; Maria Salouvardou; Raimon Soldevilla; Hatice Rana Tarhangil Karadayi ‘Ranart’; Helena Torres; Josep M Pastó, the Ocean Sole collective; the Sitges residents Roberto Franco ‘Roby’ and Genis Hernández; and the African guest artists Apollinaire Guidimbaye ‘Doff’; Patrick Tagoe-Turkson and Onyis Martin.

The exhibition also includes a special collective work co-created by the users who live at the Fundació Ave Maria and another piece from the co-creation workshop guided by Richard Hoffman, a British artist living in Sitges, made on 8 June, World Ocean Day, which reused materials collected during the beach clean-up held as part of the Clean-Up Europe activities.

ReciclArt, the festival of recycling and responsible art, is organised by Sitges City Council and Drap-Art with the support of the Government of Catalonia and in collaboration with the Barcelona Provincial Council; the Centre for Marine Studies; the OOA and Artamore galleries; and the hotels Eurostars Sitges, Meliá Sitges, Sabàtic Sitges Hotel, Hotel Calipolis and Hotel Estela Barcelona.

Complementary shows in the town’s galleries

To complement the group exhibition at the Miramar-Centre Cultural, a simultaneous show is being held by OOA Gallery in Sitges (with the African guest artists Patrick Tagoe Turkson, Doffy and Onyi Martin), along with another artistic proposal entitled Mouse? by the artist J. M. Pastó at Artamore Sitges.

ReciclArt Route

Also as part of the parallel activities, the ReciclArt route is being held, which enables the public to tour the hotels Meliá Sitges, Sabàtic Sitges Hotel, Hotel Calipolis and Hotel Estela Barcelona, which are displaying large artworks by artists associated with the festival.

The Hotel Eurostars Sitges is participating with a live-painting performance using natural pigments from Garraf by the artist Macarena Pinilla, who is also displaying her work at the Miramar– Centre Cultural.
